Banns
of Marriage
We will write to you about three months before your
wedding day, letting you know when your banns are to be
read in church. These are read on three Sundays at the
10:00 a.m. service. You are not obliged to hear them
read, but many couples like to, and of course many
families like to come and support you then.
You must arrange to have your banns read at your own
parish church if you do not live in the parish of All
Saints’. Please contact the vicar/s there and ask them to
call your banns. They will issue you with a certificate
which will cost £31.00, and which you must bring to us.
The wedding cannot take place unless we have this
certificate.
If you are a foreign national, you need to be married by
licence, not banns, and there are other situations where
a licence must be obtained. This will be discussed when
you book your wedding.
Service
Details
The minister who is marrying you will discuss the service
with you. You can choose up to three hymns, a Bible
reading, other readings, organ music for the beginning
and end of the service, and to be played during the
signing of the registers.
The week before your wedding you will have a rehearsal.
It is essential that the bride and groom attend, and
obviously it is desirable that others taking part in the
service are there too.
Service
Sheets
You do not need a special printed order of service for
your wedding, but if you would like one, please show the
proofs to the minister before you place your final order
with the printer. You may find the order set out here
helpful. When you calculate how many you need, please
remember that if you are having the choir, they will need
copies.
